Description
Biotin is a water-soluble vitamin and belongs to the B vitamins. It is included in energy production through the metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins and fats. Biotin also contributes to normal mucous membranes, strong nails and healthy skin. Most foods contain small amounts of biotin. Larger amounts are found in offal such as liver, as well as egg yolk, fish, meat, seeds, nuts and certain vegetables (including sweet potatoes). The biotin content in food can vary depending on the plant variety and season. Various processing techniques (for example canning) can reduce the biotin content of food.
